Biography

Lorne A. Becker, M.D.

Lorne A. Becker, M.D., is emeritus professor in the Department of Family Medicine at SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse in New York. He serves as co-chair of The Cochrane Collaboration Steering Group, an international non-profit healthcare organization.

Dr. Becker is associate editor of Family Practice by Oxford University Press. He is a member of The Cochrane Collaboration Monitoring and Registration Group and coordinator of Primary Health Care Field for The Cochrane Collaboration. Dr. Becker served as chief of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Toronto Hospital in Canada. He is past director of the Program for Advice and Support for Students at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Becker is well published with publications in The Lancet, The Journal of Family Practice, Annals of Family Medicine, and the ACP Journal Club. He has presented for the North American Primary Care Research Group, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

After graduating from the University of Western Ontario Medical School, Dr. Becker trained in family practice at Calgary General Hospital in Alberta, Canada. He completed his residency at Foothills Hospital at Calgary Alberta Family Practice. Dr. Becker is board certified in family practice.
