The maximize button looks like a box with a thick bar on the top.

When you maximize a window, the window fills your computer screen and covers up everything else. Look at the maximized window and notice the maximize button looks different now.
When you maximize a document, the maximize button changes into a restore button.

The third button in the upper right corner of every window's title bar looks like an "X". This is the close button.

To close a window, click the close button. If you close a window but haven't saved your work, your computer will usually ask you if you want to save the your work.
