DRUG INTERACTIONS

Scenario

Mrs. Jones, a patient of Dr. Parker, has been on a low fat diet in an attempt to lower her blood cholesterol level. After following the low fat diet for many months, her test results still show a level of 287 mg/dl.

Dr. Parker wants to prescribe simvastatin, a medication that will lower Mrs. Jones' cholesterol levels, but first, she wants to be aware of any possible interactions with her current medications.

Using this scenario, you will learn how to:

• Access the Drug Interactions section of the Micromedex^® Healthcare Series.
• Enter and submit the patient medication profile to the DRUG-REAX^® System for determination of interactions.
• View the list of interactions to the medication profile.
