IV
COMPATIBILITY
Scenario
Mr. Ross is
a 58-year-old patient admitted for a rule-out myocardial infarction.
He has been started on heparin as a continuous intravenous infusion.
Due to fluid problems and a question of an infection, he is also
ordered Lasix, gentamicin, and ampicillin. All drugs are to be administered
intravenously.

The nurse would
like to use one IV line if possible. To be sure these medications
are compatible, she will use the IV INDEX® System with Trissel's
Tables.
Using this scenario,
you will learn how to:
- Create an
IV Drug Profile for a patient
- Calculate
the IV Compatibility of the drug profile
- Read the
results of the Trissel's Tables® and Gold Standard Multimedia®
compatibility data
