IV
COMPATIBILITY
The System calculates
Y-Site Compatibility based on Trissel's Tables®. Each drug entered
in the IV Drug Profile is calculated once as the base drug.
Calculation
results are shown for the following diluents:
Using our scenario
for Mr. Ross as the example, the first table displayed in the calculation
would show Heparin Sodium as the base drug:

Definitions
of the Compatibility Codes are always displayed with the calculations,
after the last table. Codes and descriptions have been included
here, for your reference.

It is important
to note that when no data or conflicting data is reported, the drug
combination should be considered incompatible.
Based on the
results shown above, you would most likely decide that a second
line would be necessary to administer Mr. Ross' gentamicin dose.
If heparin and ampicillin are co-administered, note that Normal
Saline (NS) should be the Diluent used. Check the Gold Standard
Multimedia® IV Admixture Information which follows the Trissel's
Tables to verify your decision.
The following
three tables are displayed after the heparin table for Mr. Ross:

These tables
provide compatibility data if other medications are chosen as the
base drug.
